Ministry Opportunity Number 1
What comes to your mind when you
hear the name “Kathmandu?”
A song that was popular the year
you (or I) graduated from high school? How about visions
of rugged mountain peaks topped by ethereal clouds? The
capital city of—now what country is that? Oh, yes,
Nepal.
I had the opportunity to visit
Nepal two summers ago. I didn’t go to climb Mount
Everest, but rather to get a firsthand look at the
challenges and opportunities facing Bible translation
there. With 66 languages and 1.8 million people still
without Scripture, Nepal ranks tenth among countries
with the most languages still needing Bible translation.
It was exciting to meet the
international teams that are tackling the translation
challenges in this beautiful Himalayan nation.
As in many locations where
translation is underway, meeting the educational needs
of the kids is essential to sustaining families serving
here. The Kathmandu International Study Center (KISC) is
a vital partner in our work, and right now they have two
immediate needs and several upcoming needs for teachers:
|
Immediate Needs: |
Secondary school science teacher |
| |
Fifth/sixth grade teacher |
| |
|
|
2010 Needs: |
Primary PE teacher |
| |
Primary special needs teacher |
| |
First grade teacher |
| |
Third/fourth grade teacher |
| |
Secondary principal |
| |
Secondary math teacher |
| |
Secondary special needs |
| |
Secondary art & design teacher |
| |
PE
and/or music assistant |
| |
|
|
2011 Needs: |
Primary principal |
| |
Secondary English teacher |
| |
Secondary social studies |
For the immediate
needs, we are looking for anyone able to assist for any
length of time. These vacancies are currently being
covered by teachers with other responsibilities, so any
assistance would be welcome. It would also be a great
way to get a firsthand look at the situation as you
consider potential longer-term involvement!
If you, or anyone you
know, is interested in more information about these
opportunities to minister to families while helping to
advance Bible translation, just reply to this email or
give us a call toll-free at 1-800-THE WORD
(1-800-843-9673). We’d love to help you get to
Kathmandu!
